8 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities. 

1.  Novant Health seeks approval to build its 16th hospital
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health filed a certificate of need with North Carolina regulators to build its 16th hospital.

2. McLaren Health Care to open retail clinics, primary care centers in Walgreens stores
Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care plans to open retail health clinics, urgent care centers and primary care sites in several Walgreens stores throughout Michigan.

3. Atrium Health seeks OK for North Carolina hospital to open in 2022
Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health is seeking a certificate of need to construct a new hospital in Stallings, N.C., according to WFAE.  

4. Akron Children's Hospital completes $84M expansion
Akron (Ohio) Children's Hospital completed an $84 million expansion of its professional building, which will bring most of the hospital's outpatient clinics together in one location.

5. UPMC Susquehanna to expand 2 hospitals in $115M renovation
With nearly $115 million in investments, Williamsport-based UPMC Susquehanna will build a new center of excellence for physician medicine and rehabilitation and revamp its cancer center.

6. Intermountain Healthcare opens 23rd hospital
Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare opened its 23rd hospital Oct. 15 — a full-service, 43-bed facility. 

7. Good Samaritan Puyallup adds 80 beds
To accommodate patient volume growth, MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Wash., added 80 beds to its facility.

8. Santa Barbara hospital completes $820M renovation
Santa Barbara (Calif.) Cottage Hospital completed a series of renovations Oct. 10 that totaled more than $820 million.
