12 systems opening new hospitals

The following hospitals and health systems opened new hospitals or announced plans to build new ones since Sept. 1.

1. Barnes-Jewish opens new Missouri hospital Nov. 5
Creve Coeur, Mo.-based Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital opened its new 64-bed facility to patients Nov. 5.

2. Medical City opens $107M cancer hospital Oct. 28
Medical City Plano (Texas) opened its $107 million cancer hospital to patients Oct. 28.

3. UPMC to build network of hospitals in China
Pittsburgh-based UPMC broke ground Oct. 28 on a new hospital in Chengdu, China. It will be the first of five hospitals that UPMC will jointly operate with Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group.

4. Reno to get its first full-service hospital in a century
Sparks-based Northern Nevada Health System broke ground on its new hospital in Reno, Nev., the first full-service hospital to be built in the region in a century. 

5. Sanford Health to build heart hospital in North Dakota
Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health plans to build an all-inclusive heart hospital next to its facility in Bismarck, N.D.

6. Avera Health opens new specialty hospital Oct. 29
Avera Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., opened to patients Oct. 29.

7. Our Lady of the Lake opens $230M children's hospital
Our Lady of the Lake opened its $230 million children's hospital in Baton Rouge, La., Oct. 5.

8. $119M South Carolina hospital opens Oct. 4
Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital, a $119 million, 50-bed facility in South Carolina, opened to patients Oct. 4.

9. Abrazo Health opens neighborhood hospital
Phoenix-based Abrazo Health opened a neighborhood hospital in Mesa, Ariz., Oct. 1.

10. Michigan Medicine to build $920M hospital
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor plans to spend $920 million to build a new hospital, which is expected to take five years to complete.

11. Franciscan Alliance to build new hospital as part of 500-acre development
Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Alliance is building a new hospital as it undertakes a more than 500-acre expansion.

12. Ascension to open microhospital in Wisconsin
Ascension Wisconsin, the Glendale-based branch of the Catholic hospital giant, plans to open a microhospital in Menomonee Falls, Wis.
