Piedmont Atlanta Hospital to undergo $603M expansion

Piedmont Atlanta Hospital will start construction on a 16-story patient tower in January as part of the hospital's $603 million expansion efforts.

The first phase of the tower's construction will be completed around September 2020. The second phase of the project, set for 2022, will add one patient floor a year to the facility, with the final two floors planned to be built in 2026.

"Soon, approximately 45 percent of the current space at Piedmont Atlanta will exceed a typical life expectancy of 40 years," said Patrick Battey, MD, CEO of Piedmont Atlanta. "This, combined with ongoing inpatient capacity issues, necessitates new and additional space."

The tower will be named the Marcus Tower in recognition of a $75 million donation from philanthropist Bernie Marcus, according to REBusiness Online.
