The hospital district already committed $6 million to the project, but the additional funds are necessary to accommodate a growing student population, the college said.
“Our nursing program has grown by 50 percent in the last five years,” said Jim Henningsen, president of the College of Central Florida. “We expect in the next five years for it to grow another 42 percent. That will bring us to just over 500 students in the program.”
The local medical community also has requested the school add programs in dental hygiene, sonography, cardiovascular tech and surgical tech.
