New Jersey lawmaker expected to resign from state senate to join Horizon BCBS board

Loretta Weinberg, New Jersey’s state Senate majority leader, will leave office early to join Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield’s board of directors, sources told NJ.com for a Jan. 5 report.

The members on the payer’s 17-seat board are appointed by Senate President Stephen Sweeney, who is expected to announce the move by the end of the week. 

The influential legislator announced her retirement in 2021, but the anticipated move to Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield would mean an early resignation, according to NJ.com

Ms. Weinberg currently serves on the senate’s Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee as its vice chair.
