Brookings (S.D.) Health System. Brookings Health System includes a 49-bed hospital with three operating rooms, a 79-bed skilled nursing home, a senior living facility and several clinics. The nonprofit hospital opened as a 21-bed facility in 1907. In 2017, the National Rural Health Association named Brookings Health System among the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals in the nation.
