Stanford Kicks Off $1B Campaign for New Hospital, Research, Education

Stanford (Calif.) University announced a new $1 billion campaign to support medical research, education and a new hospital.

The Campaign for Stanford Medicine will invest in research, enhance medical education and graduate education programs in the biomedical sciences and build a new hospital. Of the campaign's funds, $700 million will support the new hospital and $300 million will support other initiatives designed to transform the delivery of care, according to the release.

The new hospital will replace some existing buildings and will include four patient care pavilions. The 823,000-square-foot facility will feature all private rooms, new equipment, hybrid platforms, expanded trauma areas and expanded emergency services. Construction will begin in 2013 with a planned opening date of 2018.

The university is simultaneously conducting a "Breaking New Ground" fundraising campaign to support the School of Medicine's child health programs and the expansion of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif. The children's hospital will double its size with the addition of 150 private patient rooms and new surgical, diagnostic and treatment areas.
