Medicare Advantage options hit highest levels since 2010

Today, more than 22 million Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans, according to a policy brief published by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

For the brief, KFF researchers analyzed CMS data on Medicare Advantage participation. Researchers found Medicare beneficiaries will be able to enroll in 3,148 private Medicare Advantage plans in 2020. That's up 414 plans since 2019.

The average beneficiary has 28 Medicare Advantage plans to choose from in 2020. It's the highest number of options available per beneficiary since 2010, when there were 33 plans per member available.

Overall, more than 100 firms will offer Medicare Advantage plans in 2020, according to KFF. Thirteen insurers will be first-time entrants, while one insurer will exit the 2020 market.
