The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions, partnerships and general transactions took place or were announced during the month of April.

1. Advocate, Aurora Health complete merger to form 10th largest system
Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care and Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care finalized their merger April 1 to become Advocate Aurora Health.

2. Quorum Health sells 77-bed Georgia hospital to Piedmont
Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health completed the sale of 77-bed Clearview Regional Medical Center in Monroe, Ga., to Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare.

3. CHS continues hospital sell-off spree: 3 things to know
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems is taking many steps, including divesting hospitals, to improve its finances and reduce its heavy debt load.

4. Partners finalizes acquisition of Massachusetts Eye and Ear
Boston-based Partners HealthCare closed on its acquisition of Massachusetts Eye and Ear, also in Boston, April 1, the health system announced April 2.

5. Kindred shareholders approve Humana, TPG Capital + others' acquisition plan
Kindred Healthcare's stockholders approved the proposed acquisition of the health system by Humana; Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe; and TPG Capital during a special meeting, the Louisville, Ky.-based health system announced April 5.

6. Billings Clinic launches heart program with Montana hospital: 4 takeaways
Billings (Mont.) Clinic and Missoula, Mont.-based Community Medical Center have entered into a partnership to launch a cardiac health program at the hospital's main campus.

7. Penn Medicine aligns with 2 Trinity Health hospitals
The University of Pennsylvania Health System has formed an alliance with two of Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health's assets in Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia-based health system announced April 5.

8. HCA-affiliated St. David's HealthCare acquires 9 Texas clinics
Austin, Texas-based St. David's HealthCare, which is jointly owned by Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare and two nonprofit foundations, has acquired The Austin Diagnostic Clinic, a physician group with nine locations.

9. 2nd state entity OKs proposed Beth Israel Deaconess, Lahey Health merger
The Massachusetts Public Health Council approved the proposed merger between Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Burlington, Mass.-based Lahey Health and three other healthcare organizations April 4.

10. Summit Health, WellSpan Health to merge: 3 notes
Summit Health, a two-hospital system in Chambersburg, Pa., and six-hospital system WellSpan Health in York, Pa., announced plans to pursue an affiliation April 3.

11. UCHealth acquires 15-bed critical access hospital
Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth finalized its acquisition of Pikes Peak Regional Hospital, a 15-bed facility in Woodland Park, Colo., UCHealth announced April 2.

12. HCA sells Florida long-term care hospital
Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare has completed the sale of Specialty Hospital of Jacksonville (Fla.), a long-term acute care hospital, to Garland, Texas-based Curahealth Hospitals.

13. UnitedHealth's Optum completes acquisition of Reliant Medical Group for $28M
UnitedHealth Group's Optum unit closed its $28 million purchase of Worcester, Mass.-based Reliant Medical Group, telegram.com reports.

14. Proposed Albertsons-Rite Aid acquisition crosses first antitrust hurdle
The Boise, Idaho-based grocery chain Albertsons' proposed acquisition of the remainder of Camp Hill, Pa.-based Rite Aid cleared its first antitrust hurdle in late March.

15. Michigan Medicine affiliate finalizes merger with West Branch Regional Medical Center
Midland-based MidMichigan Health, an affiliate of Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine, finalized the integration of West Branch (Mich.) Regional Medical Center, officials announced April 2.

16. LHC Group, Almost Family merger creates 2nd largest in-home healthcare provider in U.S.
Lafayette, La.-based LHC Group and Louisville, Ky.-based Almost Family completed their merger to create the second largest in-home healthcare provider in the nation, officials announced April 2.

17. Cleveland Clinic integrates 100-bed Ohio hospital
Dover, Ohio-based Union Hospital became a full member of Cleveland Clinic, the health system announced April 2.

18. Prospect subsidiary offers to buy, reopen shuttered Rhode Island hospital
Providence, R.I.-based CharterCare Health Partners announced plans April 12 to purchase and reopen Pawtucket, R.I.-based Memorial Hospital, which closed last year.

19. Rush axes merger with 272-bed Chicago hospital
Chicago-based Rush health system and Evergreen Park, Ill.-based Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers terminated their plans to integrate.

20. Wyoming Medical Center to acquire 23-bed Mountain View Regional
Casper-based Wyoming Medical Center entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Mountain View Regional Hospital, also in Casper, WMC announced April 11.

21. Sanford Health, Mid Dakota Clinic will reportedly abandon merger plans if appeal fails
Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health and Bismarck, S.D.-based Mid Dakota Clinic said they will abandon plans to merge if their appeal of a lower court's ruling is not successful.

22. CHS to sell 421-bed Florida hospital
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems inked a definitive agreement to sell Ocala, Fla.-based Munroe Regional Medical Center and its assets, the 126-hospital system announced April 18.

23. CHOP signs deal to provide medical services in UAE
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the United Arab Emirates entered into a medical services agreement April 16 to provide medical care for children in the UAE.

24. KentuckyOne Health sells 25-bed critical access hospital
Louisville, Ky.-based KentuckyOne Health entered into a definitive agreement to sell Saint Joseph Martin (Ky.) and its four clinics to Lexington, Ky.-based Appalachian Regional Healthcare.  

25. Tenet acquires remaining stake in United Surgical Partners for $630M
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare purchased the remaining 15 percent ownership in Addison, Texas-based United Surgical Partners International for $630 million, the 69-hospital system announced April 26.

26. University of Kansas Health System to acquire Great Bend Regional
Kansas City-based The University of Kansas Health System revealed April 25 the institution signed a letter of intent to purchase Great Bend (Kan.) Regional Hospital and its affiliated clinics.

27. Mass General, Eastern Maine Healthcare ink affiliation
Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems in Brewer entered into a clinical affiliation, the organizations announced April 25.

28. ProMedica to acquire nursing home chain — creating $7B health network
Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica and Welltower, a healthcare-focused real estate investor, purchased Quality Care Properties, which is the soon-to-be owner of Toledo-based HCR ManorCare, the nation's second-largest nursing home chain, for $2.2 billion.

29. Adventist Health, St. Joseph Health to merge select Northern California facilities
Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health and Irvine, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health formed a joint operating company to integrate select facilities in Northern California, the organizations announced April 23.

30. Mount Sinai partners with LabCorp
New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System announced a partnership deal with LabCorp April 24 to optimize inpatient laboratory services across the health system.

31. 3 Native American tribes jointly seek control of South Dakota hospital
Three Native American tribes revealed plans to assume control of Sioux San Hospital, a nine-bed facility in Rapid City, S.D., from the U.S. Indian Health Service.

32. KentuckyOne to close sale on Jewish Hospital, assets 'within 1 month or less'
Private equity firm BlueMountain Capital Management will reportedly decide "within a month or less" whether it will assume control of several of Louisville-based KentuckyOne Health's assets.

33. Physician sets sights on building 25-bed microhospital in Florida community
A Florida physician is waiting to hear back from the state about his application to build a 25-bed microhospital near Ave Maria, Fla.
