2 New Jersey health systems explore merger

Elizabeth, N.J.-based Trinitas Regional Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health System in West Orange, N.J., are discussing a merger, according to tapinto.net.

Trinitas CEO Gary Horan sent a letter to employees outlining the benefits of a potential merger, including improved purchasing power and greater leverage when negotiating with insurers.

“We do not know at this point what level of affiliation we will arrive at, if any, but we should have a good idea if this concept makes sense shortly,” Mr. Horan wrote. “The healthcare landscape is changing, and we owe it to those who depend on us to explore all options.”
