Mississippi hospital secures 3rd owner in 2 years

Panola Medical Center, a 112-bed hospital in Batesville, Miss., has had three different owners since 2017.

Clinton, Tenn.-based Curae Health acquired Panola Medical Center, previously called Merit Health Batesville, from Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems on May 1, 2017. Curae entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2018, creating an uncertain future for the hospital.

On March 20, Vizion Health announced it had acquired Panola Medical Center. The Charlotte, N.C.-based company partnered with Progressive Medical Management of Batesville, Whitwell Holdings and Java Medical Group on the acquisition.

With the acquisition of Panola Medical Center, Vizion's portfolio includes four healthcare facilities. In addition to the medical center, the company owns a psychiatric hospital and a residential treatment center in Miami, Okla., and a behavioral health facility in Fort Worth, Texas.
