RWJBarnabas Health names corporate chair of geriatrics

West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health has tapped Jessica Israel, MD, as its corporate chair of geriatrics, the hospital said Wednesday.

Dr. Israel will work with geriatricians and interdisciplinary teams across RWJBarnabas Health to develop innovative programs focused on geriatrics and senior care.

She joined the health system in 2002, practicing as a geriatrician at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J. In this role, Dr. Israel established the state’s first outpatient palliative care program and a nationally-recognized program in geriatric medicine.

In 2015, Dr. Israel became the health system’s regional director of geriatrics and palliative care, expanding her program to Monmouth Medical Center’s Southern Campus. There, she developed and serves as the director of The James and Sharon Maida Geriatrics Institute.
