Tufts’ parent company Wellforce taps Dr. Michael Wagner as chief physician executive

Burlington, Mass.-based Wellforce selected Michael Wagner, MD, to serve as chief physician executive, effective in May. He currently serves as president and CEO of Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children in Boston. Wellforce was established in 2014 and is Tufts Medical Center’s parent.

Dr. Wagner, a primary care physician, has served as Tufts Medical Center CEO since September 2013. His previous roles at the medical center include chief of internal medicine and adult primary care and CMO. He also has experience serving as CEO of EmCare Inpatient Services, a hospital inpatient physician management company.

During his tenure at Tufts Medical Center as CEO, the hospital strengthened service lines including surgery and primary care, and its bottom line increased by $16.8 million from June 2016 and June 2017.

In his new role, Dr. Wagner will oversee the Wellforce physician network and drive its strategic direction.
