University Hospitals in Cleveland names COO, medical center president

Cleveland-based University Hospitals has named Eric Beck, DO, system COO and Daniel Simon, MD, chief clinical and scientific officer and president of UH Cleveland Medical Center.

The appointments are part of leadership structure changes to improve system collaboration and innovation, University Hospitals said in a news release.

In his new role, Dr. Beck will be responsible for East and West region community hospitals as well as the University Hospitals physician network, ambulatory services, accountable care organization, chief quality officer, chief nursing officer and home care. Dr. Beck will also be responsible for the system's innovation arm, UH Ventures, of which he is president.

Previously, Dr. Beck was president and CEO of the University of North Texas Health clinical enterprise and a senior executive with Envision Healthcare, a Nashville, Tenn.-based physician provider group.

Dr. Simon currently serves as president of UH Medical Centers. In his new role, he will lead system institutes and clinical departments and play a key role in forming a new approach to the system's academic mission, University Hospitals said.

Previously, Dr. Simon was president of UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute and chief of the division of cardiovascular medicine at UH Cleveland Medical Center. He also taught medicine at Cleveland-based Case Western Reserve University and held clinical and academic appointments at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, both in Boston.
