UCSF School of Medicine appoints Dr. Robert Wachter department of medicine chair

University of San Francisco School of Medicine named Robert Wachter, MD, the new chair of its department of medicine. Dr. Wachter already holds the Lynne and Marc Benioff Endowed Chair in Hospital Medicine and will now also become the Holly Smith Distinguished Professor in Science and Medicine.

Dr. Wachter has served as interim chair of the medicine department for the past year. He is the author of 250 articles and six books. He received the National Quality Forum’s John M. Eisenberg Award in 2004. He is also the founding chief of the hospital medicine division at UCSF School of Medicine.

Dr. Wachter completed his residency in internal medicine at UCSF, followed by a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar fellowship at Stanford (Calif.) University.
