This Week’s Executive Moves: Jan. 7-14

The follow hospital and healthcare executive moves were announced in the past week.

1. Akron (Ohio) General Health System has appointed Stephen M. Gary as senior vice president and CFO. He will join AGHS on Jan. 31.

2. Alan Wade Biggs has been named vice president of financial services and CFO of Kokomo, Ind.-based Howard Regional Health System. Mr. Biggs’ position is effective Jan. 31.

3. Chris Mattingly has been named interim CEO and CFO of Bamberg (S.C.) County Hospital. Mr. Mattingly’s appointment follows the BCH board’s Dec. 26 decision to put Carl Menist, the hospital’s previous interim CFO, on administrative leave pending the completion of a financial audit.

4. Bill Walczak, CEO of Codman Square Health Center in Dorchester, Mass., will leave to become president of Caritas Christi’s Carney Hospital in Dorchester.

5. G. Richard Hastings, president and CEO of Kansas City, Mo.-based Saint Luke’s Health System, announced his July 31 retirement.

6. Brooksville (Fla.) Regional Hospital has hired Patrick Maloney as CEO. Mr. Maloney will begin his duties with the 120-bed BRH Jan. 12.

7. Saint Louis University Hospital has named Phillip Sowa as CEO. Mr. Sowa began his duties with SLUH, a Tenet Healthcare hospital, last week.

8. Joseph Stewart will step down as CEO and president of Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo, Calif. The hospital’s board of directors announced Mr. Stewart’s departure Saturday and did not release reasons for the move. Mr. Stewart served as CEO of the 189-bed hospital since June 2006.

9. Mercy Gilbert (Ariz.) Medical Center has hired Tim Bricker as president and CEO, effective Jan. 17.

10. Steven J. Thompson has been named CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine International, the arm of the system that enters into agreements overseas and manages Johns Hopkins’ international enterprises.
