Michael Young plans to retire Jan. 2 as CEO of Philadelphia-based Temple Health.
Abhi Rastogi, who was named COO Sept. 18, will succeed Mr. Young, according to an Oct. 30 health system news release. Mr. Rastogi will continue to lead Temple University Hospital while assuming the systemwide role.
Mr. Young has led Temple Health since 2020. He joined the 990-bed system in 2018 as COO and was named CEO of Temple University Hospital in 2019. He played a key role in the system’s integration of Fox Chase Cancer Center and expansions including Temple Health-Chestnut Hill Hospital and Temple Women & Families Hospital.
Mr. Rastogi has been with Temple Health for more than 20 years, most recently serving as president and CEO of Temple University Hospital and executive vice president and COO of the health system.
As CEO of Temple University Hospital and its campuses, Mr. Rastogi has overseen operational and financial changes totaling more than $100 million in annual impact. Under his leadership, the Temple Lung Center became the nation’s highest volume lung transplant program.
Throughout his tenure, Mr. Young has focused on improving access for patients and developing leaders, he told Becker’s in April.
“We’re so busy being busy that we forget, on a minute-by-minute and a day-by-day basis, what are we really doing to develop our people?” he said. “What assignments are we giving them that will give them skills that they need, at the same time allowing us to accomplish what the organization needs? We have to think and do more about that on a daily basis.”
