Chicago-based CommonSpirit has appointed Jacquelyn Bombard as system senior vice president of government affairs.
Ms. Bombard spent the last 10 years at Renton, Wash.-based Providence, most recently serving as associate vice president and chief federal affairs officer. In that role, she led federal advocacy strategies during a period of significant policy change, including efforts to extend ACA premium tax credits and defend Medicaid access.
In her new role at CommonSpirit, she will oversee federal and state policy strategy, legislative affairs and government relations.
Ms. Bombard has been a vocal advocate for protecting access to care amid shifting federal policies. In an August interview with Becker’s, she warned that the expiration of ACA tax credits and proposed Medicaid cuts could severely strain emergency departments and destabilize hospitals, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
“The status quo is not sustainable,” she said at the time. “If we don’t extend these subsidies, it’s going to dismantle our health system — and every patient, every provider and every community is going to feel that.”
