Phoenix Children’s names new CEO

John Nickens has been named president and CEO of Phoenix Children’s, effective no later than Oct. 1.

Mr. Nickens currently serves as corporate president of hospitals and CEO of University Medical Center, part of New Orleans-based LCMC Health, according to a July 8 Phoenix Children’s news release.

He will succeed Robert Meyer, who previously announced plans to retire after more than 23 years leading the system.

At LCMC Health, Mr. Nickens launched one of the nation’s largest freestanding pediatric behavioral health hospitals and built a statewide pediatric care network. He previously served as president and CEO of Children’s Hospital New Orleans for five years and held multiple leadership roles at Houston-based Texas Children’s Hospital, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Phoenix Children’s includes more than 50 sites of care, 75 subspecialties and 8,000 employees.
