Lawrence Furnstahl, executive vice president and CFO of Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University, has shared plans to exit his role, effective in December, according to an OHSU employee message from system president Shereef Elnahal, MD, obtained by Becker’s.
Following his exit, Mr. Furnstahl will assume the role of vice chancellor for finance and administration at the University of California San Diego on Jan. 1.
In his new role, Mr. Furnstahl will lead strategic financial planning and management for UC San Diego, overseeing budgeting, real estate, capital finance and self-supporting revenue initiatives, according to an Oct. 8 UC San Diego news release shared with Becker’s.
“Over the course of his nearly 15-year tenure at OHSU, Lawrence has helped lead our university’s growth, with a 66% increase in the number of employees, 150% increase in revenue and 125% increase in net worth,” Dr. Elnahal said. “Lawrence has been a respected and critical member of the executive leadership team and the Oregon business community, and his decades of financial, strategic and operational experience will serve him well in his new role.”
OHSU will name an interim CFO to succeed Mr. Furnstahl while it conducts a national search for a permanent CFO.
