Novant adds to executive team: 8 things to know

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health has added three leaders to its executive team.


Here are eight things to know about the additions.

Tanya Blackmon will serve as executive vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer.

1. Ms. Blackmon joined Novant Health in 1992 and has held a variety of leadership roles, including director of clinical improvement and community care services, director of inpatient discharge planning, COO of Novant Health Charlotte (N.C.) Orthopedic Hospital and president of Novant Health Huntersville (N.C.) Medical Center.

2. She earned a bachelor's degree in social work from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, based in Greensboro. She also earned a master's degree in business administration from Queens University in Charlotte, and a master's degree in social work from the University of South Carolina, based in Columbia.

Denise Mihal, BSN, RN, is now executive vice president and chief nursing and clinical operations officer.

3. She has more than 30 years of experience as a nurse and healthcare leader.

4. Most recently, she led clinical operations for all Novant Health hospitals, working directly with facility nursing officers, surgical services and trauma and emergency services leaders. She also oversees clinical operations for Novant Health's central staffing and scheduling office and case management team.

5. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J., and a master's degree in business administration from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Janet Smith-Hill, MSN, BSN, RN, will serve as executive vice president and chief human resources officer.

6. Ms. Smith-Hill has 30 years of experience in nursing and human resources leadership.

7. Most recently, she was senior vice president of human resources at Novant Health, where she has provided leadership for talent acquisition and employment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, employee occupational health, the human resources service center, learning and development and business human resources.

8. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master's degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
