Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Amox most recently served as administrator and COO at Gainesville-based University of Florida Health.

2. His previous leadership roles include positions at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock and Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

3. Mr. Amox’s appointment comes more than one year after El Paso Children’s Hospital filed for bankruptcy, following a failed deal with University Medical Center of El Paso.

4. A bankruptcy judge, however, approved a reorganization plan under which El Paso Children’s Hospital became a subsidiary of University Medical Center of El Paso. George Caralis of Deloitte Corporate Restructuring Group, a turnaround specialty firm, stepped in to serve as interim CEO of El Paso Children’s.

5. University Medical Center of El Paso also named Jacob Cintron its new CEO in July.

“This is really just a great atmosphere right now because you have great opportunities not only to expose El Paso to the wonderful things that both hospitals are doing, but both CEOs bring new eyes, fresh ideas, fresh talents to the table. And that’s all good,” said Ryan Mielke, UMC spokesperson, according to the report.
