Jennifer DeCubellis will step down May 10 as CEO of Minneapolis-based Hennepin Healthcare System after five years at the helm.

“Every leader has a season,” Ms. DeCubellis told the Hennepin Healthcare board of directors March 26, according to a system news release. “We are all destined for a specific purpose, and a strong leader passes the baton when the time is right. That time for me is now.”

Ms. DeCubellis joined Hennepin — which includes a level 1 adult trauma center, level 1 pediatric trauma center and acute care hospital, as well as a clinic system with primary care clinics — in February 2020.

During her tenure, she was instrumental in managing Hennepin through civil unrest in Minneapolis and overseeing the rebuilding of East Lake Clinic, also in Minneapolis, according to the release.

She is also credited with securing $140 million in annual funding — called directed payments — to support the system’s safety-net functions.

Hennepin expects to name an interim CEO April 3.
