Mercy adds COO role at recently acquired system

Cape Girardeau, Mo.-based Mercy Southeast is seeking a chief operating officer.

Scott Sell, chief talent acquisition officer at St. Louis-based Mercy, recently shared the job posting via LinkedIn. A spokesperson for the health system confirmed to Becker's that this is a newly created role, as SoutheastHealth has not had a COO since joining Mercy.

Mercy acquired SoutheastHealth — a system including two hospitals, a behavioral health hospital and 48 clinics — on Jan. 3, rebranding the system to Mercy Southeast. Kenneth Bateman, the CEO of SoutheastHealth and now the CEO of Mercy Southeast, is delaying his retirement until late 2024 to help lead the transition. He has stepped down from his role as president and will work alongside Mercy Regional President Eric Ammons and Mercy Southeast Community President Ryan Geib.
