Former HHS leader to steer Mayo’s AI implementation

Micky Tripathi, PhD, former National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has been appointed chief AI implementation officer at Mayo Clinic, based in Rochester, Minn.

A Mayo Clinic spokesperson confirmed Dr. Tripathi’s appointment to Becker’s.

Dr. Tripathi served as national coordinator from 2021 to January 2025. During his tenure, he led efforts to modernize health IT infrastructure, promote interoperability, and integrate artificial intelligence into healthcare systems. In July 2024, HHS reorganized the Office of the National Coordinator into the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy, expanding its scope to oversee department-level technology, data and AI initiatives.

Before his federal service, Dr. Tripathi was chief alliance officer at Arcadia, a healthcare analytics company focused on population health.
