Former Hartford Hospital CEO Dies at 78

John Springer, the former CEO of Hartford (Conn.) Hospital, died on Feb. 4 at age 78, according to a report in the Hartford Courant.

Mr. Springer led Hartford Hospital from 1976-1989 and is credited with creating the Life Star helicopter program, according to the report. Colleagues in the report described him as a hands-on, detail-oriented leader who not only developed the technical aspects of the hospital, but also knew the names of every staff member at the hospital.

Mr. Springer was active in the Hartford community until his retirement, when he moved from Connecticut to Florida and New Hampshire, according to the report.
