Charlene MacDonald has been named president and CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals, effective Jan. 1. Ms. MacDonald will succeed Charles Kahn, who will retire at the end of 2025.
In her new role, Ms. MacDonald will lead FAH’s efforts in strategic advocacy, promote its membership and advance practical policy solutions to support tax-paying hospitals and their patients, according to a Dec. 16 news release.
Prior to her new role, Ms. MacDonald served as executive vice president of public affairs for FAH. She also served as chief government affairs officer for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.
“This is a pivotal time for tax-paying hospitals – one that requires strategic partnership with stakeholders across the industry and with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to address today’s complex challenges,” Ms. MacDonald said in the release. “As President and CEO, I will focus on pragmatic, bipartisan solutions that advance our members’ ability to deliver high-quality, affordable patient care to communities in every part of this country.”
