Here are four points:
1. Most recently, Dr. Rich was president of Value Based Healthcare Solutions and a project manager for the Virginia Cardiac Services Quality Initiative.
2. He previously served as director of the Center for Medicare Management and was president of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons in 2012.
3. A cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Rich served as principal investigator on more than two dozen clinical trials and practiced at Sentara Norfolk (Va.) General Hospital for more than 20 years. He served as surgical director of the hospital’s heart transplant program.
4. He succeeds Joseph Cacchione, MD, who left to serve as president of St. Louis-based Ascension Medical Group.
