Bayfront Health Regional CEO Joseph Mullany resigns

Joseph Mullany, regional president and CEO of St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Bayfront Health, resigned Aug. 21, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Mr. Mullany served in the leadership role for 18 months, after joining the organization in February 2018. He was previously president and CEO of Detroit Medical Center.

Mr. Mullany told the Times that he was going to back to his family in Michigan to spend more time with his children.

"The St. Petersburg hospital is in good hands, and it's doing better than when I first came here," he told the Times. "I see a good path for it going forward."

During his tenure, Bayfront Health laid off 30 employees, and its partnership with the Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa ended, the Times reports.

Mr. Mullany also briefly served as interim CEO of the health system's flagship, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, when its CEO John McLain departed in February. This week, he told the Times that he fired Mr. McLain and then-CFO Pam Modisett. The hospital hired a new CEO, Sharon Hayes, RN, in July.

Mr. Mullany is departing soon after a St. Petersburg City Council meeting where health system leadership was grilled regarding finances and care quality.
