AdventHealth named David Banks as its new president and CEO April 3, effective immediately.
Mr. Banks replaces Terry Shaw, who announced his retirement in December after 40 years with the Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based system.
Most recently, Mr. Banks served as group CEO for the Primary Health Division and the Multi-State Division of AdventHealth, overseeing 22 campuses across eight states and three regional partnerships. He has also served as AdventHealth’s chief strategy officer for the last eight years, playing a pivotal role in the development and ongoing execution of Vision 2030, the system’s 10-year strategy and business plan.
“It is an incredible honor to be asked to lead AdventHealth. Our culture supports and develops one another, and I wouldn’t be here without the support of many along the way, including the visionary leadership of Terry Shaw,” Mr. Banks said.
Mr. Shaw served as CEO since 2016, guiding AdventHealth through a period of strategic growth and cultural evolution. He told Becker’s in January that, at the time, the candidates for his role had more than 30 years with the organization each, including eight years spent as senior leaders on his team. Mr. Shaw noted that he looks forward to spending time with AdventHealth’s leadership institute, where he will help train the next generation of leaders, in addition to lending support to his successor.
“I need to be helpful to the new CEO in whatever capacity they think makes the most sense for their leadership,” Mr. Shaw told Becker’s. “Otherwise, I need to become chief cheerleader and do the best I can to support the organization in whatever manner that is.”
AdventHealth includes 55 hospital campuses, more than 2,000 care sites and 100,000 team members.
