8 hospitals, health systems adding new C-suite roles

Hospitals and health systems are reshaping their leadership teams, including by adding inaugural roles to their C-suites.

Here are the new roles hospitals and health systems have added since Sept. 15:

1. Gainesville, Fla.-based UF Health appointed John Hollingsworth, MD, its first chief quality officer. Dr. Hollingsworth most recently served as chief quality officer of UF Health Shands Hospital and UF Health Physicians, both in Gainesville.

2. Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente appointed Carrie Owen Plietz as group senior vice president and COO of care delivery, a newly created role. She will oversee hospital operations, pharmacy services, nursing, continuum of care, and consumer and patient experience across the system’s markets.

3. Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham appointed Kim DeRoche, MD, as its first systemwide chief of primary care. She will begin the role Feb. 2, overseeing care delivery across the system’s academic medical centers, health centers and the MGB Medical Group.

4. Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical System appointed Thomas Smyth, MD, as its first executive vice president for community health. He began the role in late November, overseeing the system’s seven community member organizations and their affiliated clinics and patient-facing facilities.

5. Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Hospitals appointed Waleed Javaid, MD, as its first chief quality officer. He previously served as director of infection prevention for New York City-based Mount Sinai Downtown and professor of medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

6. Salt Lake City-based University of Utah Health appointed James Hotaling, MD, as its first chief innovation officer. He began the role Sept. 1 after serving as associate vice president of research for innovation and translation.

7. Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai appointed Joyce So, MD, PhD, as its first chief genomics officer. The role focuses on expanding the system’s precision medicine efforts.

8. Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y., appointed Peter Paige, MD, as its first chief clinical officer. He also serves as executive vice president and began the role Oct. 15.
