Gartner: 4 trends shaping IT security

Four key trends will transform the security software market in the coming years, according to a Gartner report.

Here are the four trends.

1. Advanced analytics. Organizations will increasingly turn to predictive and prescriptive analytics to identify potential security incidents and provide guidance on how to respond. Heuristics, artificial intelligence and other technologies will drive these processes.

2. Vendor consolidation. Established companies will acquire and integrate startups and smaller vendors to increase their market share and enter new markets. Companies will also work to consolidate their own products under single services and brands.

3. Software as a Service adoption. As business practices move online, security providers will need to invest in SaaS products that support digital businesses. Gartner noted these providers must balance established security products with SaaS managed services.

4. Regulatory environment. The regulatory environment is becoming increasingly “punitive,” according to Gartner, with agencies enacting fines on organizations that mishandle data. These financial concerns will drive security software decisions.

“Providers should identify the key regulatory requirements and constraints in target geographies by working with legal counsel to deliver product and service choices that will alleviate board-level fears,” according to Gartner.
