78% of CISOs worry about ability to detect data breaches: 6 survey insights

Chief information security officers struggle to address growing concerns over data breaches, according to a ServiceNow report.

ServiceNow surveyed 300 CISOs about how large organizations strategize and respond to IT security threats for the report, titled "The Global CISO Study: How Leading Organizations Respond to Security Threats and Keep Data Safe."

Here are six survey insights.

1. The majority (81 percent) of CISOs report they are "highly concerned" some data breaches in their organization have gone unaddressed.

2. More than three-fourths (78 percent) of CISOs are worried about their ability to detect data breaches.

3. Only 19 percent of CISOs said their organizations is "highly effective" at preventing data breaches.

4. Almost all CISOs (91 percent) said attracting cybersecurity talent is critical for organizational security. However, only 55 percent report developing skills to combat future threats.

5. The majority (70 percent) of CISOs said it is difficult to prioritize IT security based on the type of data being breached.

6. Two-thirds of organizations plan to automate their processes in the next three years, as 28 percent say manual processes pose a barrier to effective IT security.
