Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based Froedtert ThedaCare Health has made organ donor registration available through its Epic MyChart patient portal.

The update, which launched Nov. 5 enables patients to to join the National Donate Life Registry on their computers or mobile devices, according to a news release shared with Becker’s.

The addition aims to simplify the registration process and increase participation, Matthew Cooper, MD, director of solid organ transplant at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin and chair of Donate Life America, said. Approximately 50% of eligible U.S. adults are registered organ donors, although 90-95% of Americans favor donation.

The MyChart feature also allows patients to indicate preferences for donation for transplant, research or education. These preferences are not visible to care teams, and existing MyChart data helps streamline the registration process.

Milwaukee-based Froedtert Health and Neenah, Wis.-based ThedaCare rebranded under a joint name in September after their January 2024 merger.
