As ransomware attacks decline, healthcare ‘still under siege’

While ransomware attacks are decreasing overall in 2025, that is not the case in healthcare, Techloy reported.

Public ransomware victim listings on dark web leak sites declined nearly 30% in the first quarter of the year compared to Q2, from 2,289 to 1,607, the smallest number in over a year, according to Check Point Research data cited by the news outlet. Factors include global law enforcement dismantling some of the biggest ransomware groups.

However, “sectors like healthcare are still under siege,” the publication noted in the Aug. 11 story. “INC Ransomware alone accounted for nearly 17% of all healthcare-related attacks in Q2. Sensitive data, urgency, and weak [defenses] make hospitals easy targets.”
