Ransomware attacks on the healthcare industry are continuing to rise, with 550 attacks recorded in 2024 — a 21% increase from 454 in 2023, according to an April 28 report from global cybersecurity firm NCC Group.
The company surveyed 402 healthcare organizations for its latest findings.

- Ransomware groups RansomHub and LockBit 3.0 were identified as the top groups targeting healthcare organizations this year.
- Only 40% of healthcare organizations provide cybersecurity awareness training for non-IT staff.
- Sixty-seven percent of respondents said they were victims of a ransomware attack in 2024; among them, 53% reported paying a ransom.
- Phishing attacks on healthcare organizations increased 45% in the first half of 2024.
