Analytics startup aiming to become the 'AWS for healthcare' raises $50M

Komodo Health, a startup building a massive database of health information for analysis by healthcare providers, payers, life sciences organizations and more, announced on Jan. 8 the close of a $50 million fundraise.

The startup will use the funding to expand its "Healthcare Map" dataset and develop new analytics software to be used by its partners to build a clearer picture of human health, develop new treatments and address population-level health issues.

In an interview with Fortune about the Series C funding round, Web Sun, Komodo Health's co-founder and president, said the company is aiming to create an Amazon Web Services-like platform specifically for the healthcare industry.

"AWS became the platform for everyone to do what they're doing," Mr. Sun said. "If there's a way for us to shorten the cycle to insight, that's what spells success for us. Instead of spending five years getting the data, companies can leverage our software and platform to get this information and insight much sooner."
