Allscripts, Northwell Health to build voice-enabled EHR & 13 other health IT notes

Here's the latest roundup of stories about health IT companies, including Allscripts, Google and Microsoft.

1. Andy Page, former president of digital health startups 23andMe and Livongo, joined Caption Health as CEO earlier this year, the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company announced Oct. 1.

2. Denver-based BurstIQ closed a $5.5 million Series A funding round in partnership with capital investing firm Elsewhere Partners.

3. Meditech announced Oct. 2 that it will be one of the first EHRs available through Google Cloud.

4. Athenahealth is selling its 29-acre campus in Watertown, Mass., but plans to sign a long-term lease with the building's new owner.

5. Novartis will establish an artificial intelligence innovation lab, in partnership with Microsoft, in which researchers will combine Microsoft's AI technology and Novartis' life sciences expertise to accelerate the development of new medicines.

6. Zynx Health released a new digital tool that extracts data from Cerner EHR systems into the clinical decision support solutions provider's content management system.

7. Ajax Health, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based startup, announced the close of a $100 million financing round for its third venture fund, which will be used to invest in other healthcare startups.

8. Northwell Health and Allscripts have teamed up to develop and deploy a cloud-based, voice-enabled EHR across the New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based health system.

9. Robert Califf, MD, former FDA commissioner, will serve as the head of strategy and policy for Alphabet's Verily Life Sciences and Google Health divisions beginning in November.

10. As Mayo Clinic transitions its EHR to the Google Cloud, the Rochester, Minn.-based health system said patient data will be kept in a "lock box" with Mayo Clinic having the only key.

11. A new initiative will distribute Amazon Echo devices to seniors living in Baltimore's affordable housing communities to provide access to voice-assisted search for local free and reduced-cost social services.

12. David Smoley, former CIO at pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, will serve in a vice president role at Apple.

13. Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare and NTT Data Services formed a new, multiyear agreement to enhance technology services and infrastructure within Tenet's care network.

14. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that it will push back its Cerner EHR rollout in the Pacific Northwest.
