Five notes:
1. Dr. Califf initially joined Alphabet as an adviser in 2017. He split his time between the technology giant and as director of Duke Forge, the health data science center of Durham, N.C.-based Duke University.
2. Dr. Califf is the first known hire whose responsibilities fall under both Google and Verily, which operate independently of one another.
3. He will remain on faculty at Duke University School of Medicine as an adjunct professor.
4. Dr. Califf served as FDA commissioner during President Obama’s administration from 2016-17.
5. After earning his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Califf completed his residency at University of California San Francisco and a cardiology fellowship at Duke.
