Tennessee hospital set to break ground on $5.1M expansion

Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tenn., held a groundbreaking ceremony Dec 5. for a $5.1 million expansion set to begin this month, according to a Macon County Times report.

The expansion will add over 8,200 square feet to the 25-bed hospital’s emergency department and renovate 2,100 square feet of existing ED space. The ED will privatize all patient rooms, expand the triage area and offer full tele-medicine capabilities.

The ED will also house a separate entrance for ambulances, a private room for physicians and staff to meet with patients, a decontamination area, two large cardiac/trauma rooms, an isolation room, an obstetrician exam room, four private exam/treatment rooms and a room specialized for behavior health needs.

Upgrades to the hospital include private registration rooms, a new hospital entrance with covered drop-off and pick-up areas, a separate waiting area for outpatient procedures, expanded lab tests, additional space for specialty clinics and additional parking.

The project is scheduled to be finished in September 2018.
