Gouverneur Hospital opens new ER

Gouverneur (N.Y.) Hospital has opened its new emergency room, the first renovation of the space since 1987, according to the Watertown Daily News.

The new ER will feature seven patient bays, all of which have walls and doors for increased privacy, and a centralized nursing station. Potsdam, N.Y.-based St. Lawrence Health System, the hospital's parent organization, donated $2 million to the project while the hospital raised $675,000 from the community.

"It's not real fancy, but it's going to make a real difference," said Brooks Washburn, the architect who designed the ER, according to the Watertown Daily News. "The medical staff has been involved in the design, which was very helpful."
