9 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities. 

1. Rady Children's Hospital to use $6M in donations to establish psychiatric ED
San Diego-based Rady Children's Hospital will create a pediatric psychiatric emergency department, believed to be the first in the nation, thanks to more than $6 million in donations.

2. United Hospital unveils $1.4M ED expansion
St. Paul, Minn.-based United Hospital unveiled its newly expanded emergency department.

3. Methodist Women's Hospital nearly doubles number of NICU beds with $19.3M expansion
Elkhorn, Neb.-based Methodist Women's Hospital unveiled its $19.3 million neonatal intensive care unit expansion, which nearly doubled the number of beds.

4. Geisinger to open $15M maternity center in Scranton
Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger's Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pa., is getting a $15 million maternity center.

5. Developers break ground on $41M Rock Regional Hospital
Construction on the $41 million Rock Regional Hospital in Derby, Kan., has begun.

6. Lakewood Health System unveils new ED expansion
Staples, Minn.-based Lakewood Health System unveiled its emergency department Sept. 6.

7. Phoenix Children's Hospital to open $40M ED
Phoenix Children's Hospital will open its $40 million emergency department and trauma center Sept. 20.

8. Mercy Health-Toledo begins construction on $56.3M hospital
Mercy Health-Toledo (Ohio) began construction on a $56.3 million hospital, surgical center and medical building Sept. 7.

9. Banner Health secures $550M bond to finance construction of two hospitals
Phoenix-based Banner Health secured a $550 million revenue bond issue to finance the construction of two teaching hospitals in Tucson, Ariz., and Phoenix.
