9 recent hospital, health system construction projects worth $300M or more

As health systems look to the future, they are forced to make investments now to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.

Here are eight hospitals or health systems that recently announced construction projects worth more than $300 million in the past three months reported by Becker's Hospital Review.

1. New Orleans children's hospital on track with $300M revamp
The Children's Hospital of New Orleans is on track with its $300 million expansion and renovation project.

2. Scripps Health to launch $2.6B expansion
San Diego-based Scripps Health is planning a $2.6 billion expansion — the largest construction project in the organization's 125-year history.

3. UPMC to invest $2 billion in 3 digitally-centered specialty hospitals
After recently announcing a commitment of $900 million toward capital projects in 2018, Pittsburgh-based UPMC will invest an additional $2 billion to build three digitally-centered specialty hospitals.  

4. U of Kansas Health System to open $360M patient tower
Kansas City-based University of Kansas Health System opened its $360 million patient tower Nov. 7.  

5. VA finalizes site for replacement $925M hospital, ending years of debate
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs selected a new site for its approximately $925 million replacement hospital in Louisville, Ky.

6. UT Southwestern plans $480M expansion at flagship hospital
Dallas-based University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center will add 300 beds to its flagship William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital in Dallas to meet growing specialty care demand.

7. Maine Medical Center wins state approval for $512M expansion
Portland-based Maine Medical Center gained approval for a $512 million expansion project.

8. Banner Health secures $550M bond to finance construction of two hospitals
Phoenix-based Banner Health secured a $550 million revenue bond issue to finance the construction of two new teaching hospitals in Tucson, Ariz.

9. Piedmont Atlanta Hospital on track with 16-story, $603M patient tower expansion
Piedmont Atlanta Hospital is still on track with its 16-story, $603 million patient tower project.
