When the revamp is complete in 2020 the hospital will have a renovated main building, a new outpatient pavilion and a larger pediatric cardiac intensive care unit.

The project also calls for an improved cancer center and bigger spaces for emergency care and surgical services.  In particular, the expansion will add 17 emergency department rooms, incorporate the former New Orleans Adolescent Hospital into its campus for additional space, renovate the surgical and ICU towers and expand parking capacity.

To complete construction without disrupting care, the middle section of the hospital will be gutted and replaced part-by-part. Services in those areas will be moved to the outer wings of the facility.
