6 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.

1. Baylor Scott & White to construct full-service hospital after two years of negotiations
Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health will construct a full service hospital in Buda, Texas after nearly two years of negotiations.

2. U of Kentucky hospital seeks approval to add 141 beds
Lexington-based University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital is seeking approval for a $50 million expansion project that will add 141 beds to the facility. 

3. Mercyhealth completes 1st phase of $505M hospital campus
Janesville, Wis.-based Mercyhealth completed the first phase of its $505 million expansion project in Rockford, Ill.

4. St. Jude Children's to construct $412M research facility
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, based in Memphis, Tenn., plans to construct a $412 million research center to accelerate the pace of discoveries and scientific breakthroughs. 

5. Unidentified health system to invest $1B into Indiana medical complex
An unidentified health system plans to invest upwards of $1 billion into a medical complex that houses an inpatient hospital and medical offices in Carmel, Ind.

At a time when many hospitals across the nation are closing maternity wards, Florida Hospital, as part of its larger $100 million expansion project, announced it would invest $20 million into birthing and pediatric services at its facility in Orange City, Fla.
