Baylor Scott & White to construct full-service hospital after two years of negotiations

Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health will construct a full service hospital in Buda, Texas after nearly two years of negotiations, according to the Hays Free Press.

According to the proposal, which was unanimously approved by Buda city officials Tuesday, the 70,000-square-foot hospital will house a full-service emergency department, medical office space, operating rooms and imaging facilities. Under the agreement, Baylor Scott & White will invest at least $35 million in land, construction and equipment for the full-service hospital. The hospital is expected to open Dec. 31, 2019.

Ann Miller, the executive director of the Buda Economic Development Corporation, an agency that negotiated the agreement between the city and the health system, said the approval comes after nearly two years of work and negotiations. According to Ms. Miller, there was a lengthy waiting process as Baylor Scott & White determined what it needed and the costs associated with the project.

Per the negotiated agreement, Baylor Scott & White will be required to create 150 jobs, with a wage of at least $30 per hour, between 2020 and 2024. In addition, the health system must acquire the land, construct the facility and make necessary investments.
