Texas children's hospital chef wants to help patients 'forget about their pain for a second'

A Dallas chef has no regrets about leaving his position as head chef of an upscale restaurant nearly 20 years ago to work as a pastry chef at Dallas-based Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, according to WFAA News 8.

Venus DeJesus told the television station he does not regret his decision to give up what most would call a "dream gig" to work in the hospital's cafeteria baking gourmet desserts for the facility's pediatric patients.

"Sometimes I'll deliver the food but I don't tell them I made it. I just want them to enjoy … I just want them to forget about their pain for a second," Mr. DeJesus said. "If the kids are happy, I am happy."

He told WFAA News 8 he has no plans to retire any time soon. But if he does, he plans to come back and volunteer at the hospital, according to the report.
