St. Croix Health in St. Croix Falls, Wis., has secured funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to build a 130,000-square-foot hospital.
Here are five things to know:
1. The facility will replace its current hospital, constructed in 1954, and maintain its 25-bed critical access designation, according to a Dec. 9 hospital news release shared with Becker’s.
2. St. Croix Regional Medical Center will receive $105 million to construct the replacement hospital, including a $95 million direct loan and a $10 million guaranteed loan, according to a Nov. 26 news release from the USDA.
3. The facility will include an expanded emergency department with improved flow for ambulances, a one-level layout to support easier mobility, and space for many existing outpatient services. Surgical and specialty care units will also be added.
The new hospital will shift focus from inpatient to outpatient services to address shifts in community need, the USDA release said.
4. Groundbreaking is expected in 2026, with an opening planned for 2028.
5. The hospital’s clinic building will continue to be used by St. Croix Health. The future of the current hospital building has not been determined.
