Swedish Covenant Hospital completes phase 1 of 4 in ED renovation

Chicago-based Swedish Covenant Hospital has completed the renovation of some patient and staff areas in a multi-phase emergency department renovation.

Phase one included renovating 10 patient rooms, two nurse stations, a radiology suite and the staff locker room and break room, as well as installing a new air handling unit and two new water heaters.

"With completion of the first of four phases, we are making excellent progress towards our goal of being better-positioned to meet the needs of our patients, our emergency department physicians and clinical staff," said Anthony Guaccio, the hospital's president and CEO, in a news release.

The renovations started in late 2016, and the last phase — phase four — is expected to be complete in fall 2018. After the entire renovation is complete, Swedish Covenant will have added six rooms to its ED, including acute care rooms, quick care rooms and triage rooms, and added a specialized behavioral health unit.
