The expansion project is the largest upgrade the hospital has undertaken in its 121-year history, according to the report. It includes a two-story addition and the renovation of existing space, which now includes the ED, hospital lobby and nearby corridors.
In addition to expanding the ED, the hospital will create a “medical village” that will offer an alternative to traditional hospitalization. The 7,800-square-foot space will offer outpatient services, primary and specialty care providers, community-based support services and non-emergency transportation assistance, according to the report.
The state contributed about $17.7 million to the project and the rest was contributed through hospital fundraising. Construction is expected to be completed in 2018, according to the report.
